The Library is a functional unit with administrative autonomy that houses all the libraries of the University of Algarve (UAlg), whose function is the management of spaces, human, material and technological resources to which is attached, in a coordinated and integrated manner. Its objectives are to manage all activities related to bibliography, related information and documentation, to support scientific and pedagogical activity, and to organize, support and promote activities of cultural extension in several fields of the University interests.
The UAlg's Library is present on Penha, Gambelas and Portimão Campi.
Its organic structure is evident in the Organic Regulation ratified on May 5th, 2009.
In Gambelas Campus there is a reading room with an area of 3300m2, 368 places and 26 study rooms, computers and a training and conference room. The opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In Penha Campus the library has a reading room area of 1800m2, 163 places, 8 study rooms, a computer room and a training room. Opening hours from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
In Portimão Campus the library has two reading rooms with 72.5 m2 and is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Among the accessible information resources, online resources are distinguished. The Library has over 135,000 books and 4,300 printed periodicals. It provides access to B-on with nearly 20 000 full-text scientific journals, 25 000 e-books and bibliographic reference databases.
