"Starting from tailor-made Drosophila models of SMA and ALS and integrating transcriptome and RNA-protein interaction data over the known protein-protein network, we have identified critical connections linking disease causal genes to changes in molecular function, capturing functional protein complexes that lie at the heart of motor neuron dysfunction. The resulting model provides exciting insights into the mechanisms behind these diseases, opening new avenues for the identification of novel disease biomarkers and drug targets."
